Keala Kendall is a hapa Native Hawaiian author of science fiction, fantasy, and horror. Born in Honolulu and raised on Molokaʻi, she now lives among the Native Hawaiian diaspora in Los Angeles. A New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, she wrote the Disney Twisted-Tale novels How Far I'll Go and Nobody Gets Left Behind before turning to horror with That Which Feeds Us: A Hawaiian Gothic, a story about a woman searching a remote resort island for her missing twin sister. Reese Witherspoon's Sunnie Reads book club selected it for May 2026. Kendall's fiction returns again and again to the islands that raised her, weaving Hawaiian folklore into stories about colonization, land, and what tourism extracts from the people who call it home. She is a cofounder of Pacific Islanders in Publishing and has helped organize the Books for Maui charity auction supporting wildfire recovery.
