Khaled Hosseini was born in Kabul and emigrated to the United States after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. A physician by training, he wrote The Kite Runner as his first novel. It became a global bestseller and, along with A Thousand Splendid Suns and And the Mountains Echoed, made him one of the most widely read authors in the world.
