Langston Hughes was an American poet, novelist, and playwright who was a central figure of the Harlem Renaissance. His poetry celebrated African American culture, vernacular speech, and musical traditions, particularly jazz and blues. He was one of the earliest innovators of jazz poetry and remained one of the most beloved and influential American poets throughout his career.
