Lauren Berlant was an American cultural theorist and George M. Pullman Distinguished Service Professor of English at the University of Chicago. Their work on affect, intimacy, and the politics of ordinary life was foundational to affect theory, queer theory, and American studies. Major works include Cruel Optimism, The Female Complaint, and The Queen of America Goes to Washington City.
