George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron, was the most celebrated and scandalous poet of the Romantic era. His verse tales, lyric poems, and the unfinished Don Juan defined an era's sense of heroism and irony. He died at thirty-six in Missolonghi, Greece, fighting for Greek independence from the Ottoman Empire.
