Luce Irigaray is a Belgian-born French feminist philosopher, linguist, and psychoanalyst. Speculum of the Other Woman, her doctoral thesis, so scandalized the Lacanian establishment that she was expelled from Vincennes. This Sex Which Is Not One extended her critique of phallocentrism into a theory of female language and sexuality. Her work has been central to feminist philosophy, literary criticism, and theories of sexual difference.
