Ludovico Ariosto was an Italian poet and playwright, best known for his romance epic Orlando Furioso. He served the Este family of Ferrara as a diplomat and administrator while composing the poem over nearly three decades. He is considered one of the greatest Italian poets after Dante and Petrarch.
