Manuel Puig was an Argentine novelist whose work draws on popular culture — cinema, radio serials, tango, and romance fiction — to create formally innovative literary novels. His major works include Betrayed by Rita Hayworth, Heartbreak Tango, and Kiss of the Spider Woman. He lived in exile from Argentina during the military dictatorship.
