Marianne Wiggins writes American novels with European range. "Evidence of Things Unseen" (2003) was a finalist for the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize—a love story that runs from World War I through the Manhattan Project, with glass and light and radiation as its motifs. Wiggins was briefly married to Salman Rushdie and went into hiding with him during the fatwa years. Her prose is luminous and exact.
