Michael McDowell was an American novelist and screenwriter who wrote the screenplays for Beetlejuice and The Nightmare Before Christmas. His horror novels, including The Elementals and the six-volume Blackwater saga, were praised by Stephen King as the finest paperback originals of their era. His work was largely out of print for decades before a 2010s revival brought him renewed attention.
