Michelle Alexander is an American civil rights lawyer, legal scholar, and author. She has taught at Stanford, the University of Iowa, and Ohio State, and served as the inaugural Visiting Professor of Social Justice at Union Theological Seminary. The New Jim Crow transformed the national conversation about criminal justice and became one of the most influential nonfiction books of the 2010s.
