Mohamed Mbougar Sarr won the Prix Goncourt in 2021 for "The Most Secret Memory of Men," a novel about a young Senegalese writer searching for a legendary, vanished African author. Sarr was the first sub-Saharan African to win the Goncourt since René Maran in 1921. His novel interrogates colonial literary history and the fate of African writers in the French canon.
