Mohsin Hamid writes novels about globalization's winners and losers. "The Reluctant Fundamentalist" (2007) follows a Pakistani man's disillusionment with America after 9/11; "Exit West" (2017), shortlisted for the Booker Prize, imagines refugees passing through magical doors between countries. Hamid was born in Lahore, educated at Princeton and Harvard, and has lived in New York and London. His prose is spare; his subjects are urgent.
