Monique Roffey

Monique Roffey won the Costa Book of the Year in 2020 for "The Mermaid of Black Conch," a novel about a mermaid caught by fishermen off a Caribbean island. The British-Trinidadian author brings magic realism to postcolonial settings. "The White Woman on the Green Bicycle" (2010) was shortlisted for the Orange Prize. Roffey writes about the Caribbean with sensual attention to landscape and culture.
