Moriel Rothman-Zecher's "Sadness Is a White Bird" (2018) follows an Israeli-American soldier through friendship with Palestinian twins and service in the occupation. Rothman-Zecher grew up between the United States and Israel; his fiction examines complicity and conscience. He is also a poet and activist.
