Her Broken Earth trilogy won three consecutive Hugo Awards for Best Novel—a feat no one else has achieved. Born in Iowa City and raised in New York, she brings a New Yorker's directness and a psychologist's insight to her fiction. Her worlds are built on geological precision and inhabited by people whose personal struggles mirror civilizational ones. She was named a MacArthur Fellow in 2020 and teaches creative writing at several institutions.
