Nawal El Saadawi was an Egyptian feminist writer, physician, and activist. Her novels and nonfiction works on women's rights in Arab societies led to her imprisonment under Anwar Sadat and her inclusion on a death list by Islamic extremists. Woman at Point Zero is her most widely translated work.
