Nell Zink

American · b. 1964

Nell Zink writes novels at speed and without apology. "Mislaid" (2015) follows a lesbian poet who marries a gay professor, then flees with their daughter into a new identity. Zink began publishing in her fifties after a correspondence with Jonathan Franzen; her novels arrive regularly and resist categorization. She lives in Germany. Her prose is energetic, her plots are improbable, and her characters refuse to behave.
