Nikos Kazantzakis was a Greek novelist, poet, and philosopher whose works explore the tension between spirit and flesh, intellect and passion. His major novels include Zorba the Greek, The Last Temptation of Christ, and Freedom or Death. He also wrote a monumental sequel to Homer's Odyssey in verse. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature multiple times.
