Patrick Chamoiseau won the Prix Goncourt in 1992 for "Texaco," a novel of Martinican history told through a woman's fight to save her shantytown. Chamoiseau is a leading voice of créolité—a Caribbean literary movement embracing Creole language and culture. His fiction is linguistically inventive, mixing French, Creole, and neologism.
