Patrick McGuinness's "The Last Hundred Days" (2011) was longlisted for the Booker Prize and won the Writers' Guild Award for fiction—a novel about Bucharest in the final months of Ceaușescu. McGuinness lived in Romania in 1989; his fiction brings documentary attention to the regime's collapse. He is also a poet and academic.
