Paul Theroux won the Whitbread Novel Award in 1978 for "Picture Palace," a novel about an American photographer looking back on her life's work. Theroux is better known for his travel writing—"The Great Railway Bazaar," "The Mosquito Coast"—but his fiction shares the same restless eye. He has published over fifty books. His brother is actor Justin Theroux; his son is Marcel Theroux, also a novelist.
