Penelope Lively won the Booker Prize in 1987 for "Moon Tiger," a novel about a dying woman reviewing her life. Lively began writing children's books—including the Carnegie Medal winner "The Ghost of Thomas Kempe"—before turning to adult fiction. Her novels explore memory and time; her prose is lucid and unshowy. She was made a Dame in 2012.
