Philip K. Dick wrote science fiction that anticipated our paranoid present. "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" became "Blade Runner"; "The Man in the High Castle" imagined Nazi-occupied America; "Ubik" (1969) dissolves reality until nothing remains solid. Dick published over forty novels while struggling with poverty and mental illness. He died in 1982, just before his work achieved mainstream recognition. His influence on film, television, and literature continues to grow.
