Rachel Cusk reinvented the novel with her Outline trilogy—"Outline" (2014), "Transit" (2016), "Kudos" (2018)—novels composed almost entirely of other people's monologues, with the narrator as absence. "Second Place" (2021) was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. Cusk's earlier work included conventional novels and controversial memoirs about motherhood and divorce. Her late style strips narrative to its bones.
