Robert Traver was the pen name of John D. Voelker, a Michigan Supreme Court Justice who wrote Anatomy of a Murder based on a case he had personally tried. A passionate fly fisherman and outdoorsman, he left the bench to write full-time after the novel's success. His work combines legal expertise with literary ambition and a deep love of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
