Robert W. Chambers was a prolific American author and artist whose vast output of popular fiction is almost entirely forgotten except for The King in Yellow, a collection of weird tales that influenced Lovecraft and became foundational to cosmic horror. Trained as a painter in Paris, he brought a visual artist's eye for decadent beauty to his supernatural fiction.
