Roger Allen is a British-American Arabist and emeritus professor at the University of Pennsylvania whose career has been devoted to Arabic literature in both scholarship and translation. He has translated major works by Naguib Mahfouz and is the author of several standard academic references on modern Arabic fiction and literary history.
