Ryūnosuke Akutagawa is regarded as the father of the Japanese short story, known for his psychologically acute, formally inventive tales drawn from classical Japanese and Chinese sources. His works include 'Rashomon,' 'In a Bamboo Grove,' and 'Hell Screen.' Japan's most prestigious literary award, the Akutagawa Prize, is named in his honor.
