Sarah Kane was a British playwright whose five plays — Blasted, Phaedra's Love, Cleansed, Crave, and 4.48 Psychosis — transformed British theater in the 1990s. Her work confronts extreme states of violence, desire, and despair with unflinching directness and formal innovation. She died by suicide at twenty-eight.
