Scott Smith is an American novelist and screenwriter known for A Simple Plan (1993) and The Ruins (2006). Both novels demonstrate his talent for trapping ordinary people in escalating moral and physical nightmares with no clean exits. He adapted A Simple Plan for Sam Raimi's 1998 film.
