British · 1902–1989
Stella Gibbons was a British novelist, poet, and journalist. Though she published twenty-four novels and several collections of poetry and short stories, she is remembered almost exclusively for Cold Comfort Farm, her first novel, which won the Femina Vie Heureuse Prize in 1933. The novel's success both made and limited her reputation — she spent her career in its shadow.
