Stuart Gilbert was an English literary critic and translator who wrote "James Joyce's Ulysses" (1930), one of the first comprehensive studies of Joyce's masterwork. Gilbert worked closely with Joyce and translated Albert Camus into English. His critical work made "Ulysses" more accessible to readers and scholars.
