Sybille Bedford was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 1989 for "Jigsaw," an autobiographical novel about her European childhood. Bedford also wrote acclaimed biographies of Aldous Huxley and legal journalism. Her fiction draws on her German-English-French background with cosmopolitan elegance.
