Thomas Kilroy was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 1971 for "The Big Chapel," a novel about a church controversy in nineteenth-century Ireland. Kilroy was primarily a playwright; his fiction and drama investigate Irish history and identity. He died in 2023.
