Thomas Ligotti is an American author of horror fiction and philosophical pessimism. His short story collections including Songs of a Dead Dreamer and Teatro Grottesco are considered masterworks of literary horror. His nonfiction work The Conspiracy Against the Human Race influenced the first season of True Detective. He is the most critically acclaimed horror writer to have never achieved mainstream popularity.
