Sir Thomas More was an English lawyer, social philosopher, statesman, and Renaissance humanist. He served as Lord High Chancellor of England under Henry VIII before being executed for refusing to acknowledge the king's supremacy over the Church. He was canonized as a Catholic saint in 1935.
