Thomas Smithyman is a clinical psychologist who specializes in treating social anxiety and other anxiety disorders. He holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Suffolk University, where he later served as an adjunct professor, and has published peer-reviewed research on the long-term effects of peer victimization. Alongside his clinical practice, Smithyman co-hosts The Anxious in Austin Podcast with fellow psychologist Marianne Stout, where the two discuss cognitive behavioral approaches to anxiety and OCD, and he produces psychoeducational videos on his YouTube channel aimed at helping people move past social anxiety into genuine connection. His first book, Dating Without Fear: Overcome Social Anxiety and Connect (2022), translates that clinical work into a self-help guide for anxious daters, drawing on case examples from his practice and the research behind them. Outside psychology, Smithyman is a songwriter and performer working toward fluency in Italian.
