Thornton Wilder won the Pulitzer Prize three times—for the novel "The Bridge of San Luis Rey" (1927) and the plays "Our Town" and "The Skin of Our Teeth." "The Eighth Day" (1968) won the National Book Award. Wilder wrote about fate, community, and the human comedy with theatrical economy.
