Varlam Shalamov

Varlam Shalamov was a Russian writer who spent seventeen years in the Soviet Gulag, mostly in the Kolyma region of northeastern Siberia. His Kolyma Tales, written over two decades, are considered one of the supreme literary achievements of camp literature and a major work of twentieth-century Russian prose.
