Vasily Grossman was a Soviet writer and war correspondent whose novel Life and Fate is widely regarded as one of the greatest novels of the twentieth century. He covered the Battle of Stalingrad and was among the first journalists to report on the Nazi extermination camps. His work was suppressed by the Soviet government and only reached a wide audience after his death.
