Venedikt Erofeev was a Russian writer known primarily for his prose poem Moscow to the End of the Line, which circulated in samizdat from 1970 and became one of the most celebrated works of late Soviet underground literature. He lived in poverty and alcoholism for most of his life and died of throat cancer at fifty-one.
