Walter Kaufmann was a German-born philosopher at Princeton known for his translations of Nietzsche and his wide-ranging work in existentialism, religious philosophy, and literary criticism. His ability to move between philosophy and literature with equal rigor made him one of the most versatile humanist scholars of the postwar period.
