Willa Cather won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1923 for "One of Ours," a novel about a Nebraska farm boy who finds purpose in World War I. Her masterpieces are earlier: "O Pioneers!" (1913) and "My Ántonia" (1918) brought the Nebraska prairie into American literature. Cather's prose is clean; her attention to landscape is exact.
