William Godwin was an English political philosopher, journalist, and novelist. His Enquiry Concerning Political Justice was one of the major works of radical political philosophy, and his novel Caleb Williams applied his ideas to fiction. He was the husband of Mary Wollstonecraft and the father of Mary Shelley.
