Winston Churchill won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1953 "for his mastery of historical and biographical description as well as for brilliant oratory in defending exalted human values." The British Prime Minister wrote "The Second World War" and "A History of the English-Speaking Peoples" alongside speeches that rallied a nation. He remains the only head of government to win the Nobel Prize in Literature.
