Yevgeny Zamyatin was a Russian novelist, short story writer, and essayist best known for his dystopian novel We, written in 1920-21 and first published abroad in 1924. A Bolshevik who became disillusioned with the revolution, he was persecuted by Soviet authorities and emigrated to Paris in 1931, where he died in poverty.
