Share a reading session as a short video

A single reading session can be rendered as a fifteen-second video. Three rings — words, time and cognitive load — close around the book's cover, followed by the day number and page you reached, the pages, minutes and words per minute, and optionally a quote you saved from that book. It is made in the iOS app, square or story-shaped, and arrives in the share sheet as an MP4 you can save or post.

Available on iOS.

Reading is the least legible thing a person does in public. There is nothing to show for an hour of it, which is part of why reading loses to things that photograph well.

The rings are the same ones on the dashboard, so the video is a record of a real session rather than a template with numbers dropped in. You pick which parts appear before you spend anything: the stats row, the progress line and the quote each have a switch, and there is a live preview on the phone first.

There is a still-image version alongside it — a card of your progress, reading speed or cognitive load — which is instant, costs nothing and renders on the phone.

What it can't do

  • iOS only. There is no Android app, and the web app has no session video.
  • The video is silent. There is no music, no narration and no text-to-speech.
  • Square or story shape only, and only the dark style. There is no landscape and no light version.
  • Rendering happens on a server and takes up to about a minute and a half; it draws on your monthly credit allowance rather than being free.
  • It covers one sitting. For a month or a year there are separate summaries, and the web app has a longer twenty-five-second monthly recap video inside the journey post generator.
  • You get a file in the share sheet. There is no public page for a session video.
