Take your reading data with you

Everything you put into ReadingRate comes back out, on any tier. The web app exports your library, journal entries and quotes as Markdown — either one consolidated file or a zip with a file per book — and lets you choose which fields to include. The iOS app adds a CSV built to the Goodreads and StoryGraph column layout, so it loads straight into either of them. Neither export needs a membership.

The Markdown export is organised the way you would read it rather than the way a database stores it: the library grouped by status with ratings and dates, the journal grouped by book with each entry's date, page range, passage and reflection, then the quotes with their page numbers and speakers, then the reading sessions with their minutes.

The CSV is one row per reading rather than per book, so a book you have read three times appears three times with three sets of dates. That is the honest shape of a reading history, and collapsing it would lose the re-reads.

A paywall on the exit is the wrong kind of lock-in, which is why this is free rather than a membership feature.

What it can't do

  • The CSV covers library data only — no quotes, journal entries or sessions. Those live in the Markdown export.
  • CSV export is in the iOS app. The web app exports Markdown only.
  • EPUBs you uploaded, cover images and book text are not included. Your own writing is.
  • The average-rating column in the CSV is always blank, because we don't store other people's ratings.
  • Nothing here re-imports. An export is a copy for you to keep, not a backup you can restore from.
