Andrea Levy wrote about the Jamaican immigrant experience in Britain with humor, heartbreak, and historical sweep. Her 2004 novel "Small Island" won the Orange Prize and the Whitbread Book of the Year, interweaving the lives of Jamaicans and Britons before and after the Windrush generation's arrival. "The Long Song" reimagined Jamaican slavery from the enslaved perspective. Levy, born in London to Jamaican parents, died in 2019, leaving fiction that permanently expanded British literature's boundaries.
